Reveiw…
Traditional Techno/Electronica stuff, which isn’t bad as this song proves. The ambeit synths that start around 1:00 are very cool sounding.
I like the mood and beat of the song a lot, keep at it.

Just Shaved…
Smooooth. you must’ve just shaved.
I wish we had the D-N-B sub genre at Garageband as a label by which to appropriately brand this track. Electronica, yes, but- RAGGA ROLLIN’ DRUM and BASS is where it lives…
Totally competent. This piece grooves very well. It has perfectly placed breaks and does all the moves it is supposed to. Here is a list of the things I thought were outstanding:
1. At 36 seconds when the counter-beat comes in to compliment the step rhythm. Man, I love that trick.
2. 1:57 when the drums come back in, great stuff.
More about the drums at 2:58, clean! Dark synth and building drum part with that bee-you-tee-full sub-base underneath it all. Sweet.
Let me say, it isn’t like I haven’t heard this all before, I have, which is not a bad thing. Lots of us out here LOVE D-n-B and I love the big Ragga sound especially. To be honest, the expiremental boundary pushing of the likes of Squarepusher and Aphex Twin tend to tire the ear after a while and we need a little straight ahead Goldie (or something, you fill in the name of your favorite urban D-n-B D.J.).
Well done. On the critical tip you might want to tweek your synths a little more, maybe get them to evolve more as the track progresses. You do have a good combination of synth patches and effects which keep the listener engaged, but, if you took those and then subtly effected them a little more over time; it would take this piece to another level. Also the initial lead synth at 12 seconds in is obviously not quantized and there are a few akward out of time pictures of- humanity? If that’s what you want, fine with me. It does stand out. It makes one pay attention, but kind of pulls away from the awesome quality of SMOOOOOTH.

Almost there……
This track is an edgy, dark drum and bass venture. Something about that vocal sample at the beginning reminds me of Leftfields “Leftism” album…..that is a great album. I love the beat that drops at 3 minutes, it come in at the perfect time. All of the original song elements return at the end and the song wraps up nicely.
You’ve got the sequencing under control and it sounds good.
A couple of production notes that might help you out:
At this stage, your song sounds slightly muddy. The high hats, snare, cymbals and synths are all occupying the same frequency. This causes a lack of definition. Make sure you are not boosting the low end of any of the aforementioned. Try using a high pass filter to get rid of the majority of low freq. on the cymbals and snare. The bass synth and bass drum need this space to themselves.
Try a gate/expander on the bass synth track. Then key the gate with the bass drum so that when the bass drum hits, you get a subtle gain increase….about 2dbs. This will give you the extra definition you need to allow for some ooompf <—-how’s that for scientific terminology.

Sweet Tune!
Hey,
How do i begin?!
Bassline intro’s wicked, real old skool feel to it. Good use of chords for the pads. If anything, i might of heard those same synths on an old jungle track, but it still add’s to the mood perfectly. Drum’s are wicked, programming’s spot on! Bassline’s heavy!! Just set back in the mix for a less “In your face” feel.
On a whole, i like the track. The productions wicked!
Good Luck

Nice beats, kickin’ tables, needs a bassline
First off, I really dig the beats — excellent breakbeat work. Nice choice for the sample — it good’n'dirty but clear enough to allow for some snare stutter (which you pull off very well). Structurally, I think there’s a bit too much repetition — some decent fills, but there need to be more variation if you’re going to keep the synth this sparse. Synths/samples are well placed and fit the song well, tho. And then the tables smack in, niiiiiiiiiiice! Excellent turntablism! As soon as the tables come in, this song really starts to shine. Nice filtering on the scratches — I dig the HPF about mid-solo. One thing I found myself thinking is “What, no bass”? I want to hear a nice, rumbling, out-of-tune analog bass in there doing pitch drops… Anyway, overall, nice drum sequencing and programming, excellent tables. Good track!

Out of whack!
I really liked the Bass but the other noise that comes in at 0:12 doesnt sound right it is in the wrong key and the timing isn’t good it needs some quantising the beat is good the second sound at 0:59 is out of key also you either want to change the bassline to match the synths or the synths to match the bassline as it sounds off I would keep the bassline and change the synths
hmmm at 2:00 none of the sounds are in key with each other and it seriously needs fixing I’m sorry but so far i’m not liking it at 3:00 it is better but the synth is still not matching the bassline 3:54 is just way out too
Man I feel really bad telling you all this please dont hold it against me
the only sugestion that i can think of is that one or more of the sounds might be transposed up or down part of an octave which is making them hard to match go into each sounds setting in the synth check to see if all the parts in the patch are either set to 0 or +12 0r -12 in the coarse pitch settings and thet the keyfollow is also set to +100
I hope that didn’t go over your head is so basically what i’m trying to do is set the synth noises back to a standard tuning so that they are easier to match as a lot of synth sounds are deliberately tuned a little out to fatten them a bit but it makes then hard to match with other sounds
hope that helped ![]()
