Review #22 Of Jungle Reason

Break the beats.
VERY Nice groove programing.
I liked the flow and progression of the groove up to the break around 1:45 area.

the pads are great for adding the atmosphre. thelead synth are also playing nice stuff, but the general sounds are a little too “familier”.

On the last part of your track there was mostly only groove, and I feel you canadd some hits on 1/32 or 1/64 of the beat to some more interesting fragments to your groove.(try some squarepusher music)

I also missed some movements in the mix (pannings, filterd delays automation and stuff…)

In conclusion - a nice groovy break beat track with catchy hooks.

Review #21 Of Jungle Reason

Just Shaved…
Smooooth. you must’ve just shaved.
I wish we had the D-N-B sub genre at Garageband as a label by which to appropriately brand this track. Electronica, yes, but- RAGGA ROLLIN’ DRUM and BASS is where it lives…
Totally competent. This piece grooves very well. It has perfectly placed breaks and does all the moves it is supposed to. Here is a list of the things I thought were outstanding:
1. At 36 seconds when the counter-beat comes in to compliment the step rhythm. Man, I love that trick.
2. 1:57 when the drums come back in, great stuff.

More about the drums at 2:58, clean! Dark synth and building drum part with that bee-you-tee-full sub-base underneath it all. Sweet.

Let me say, it isn’t like I haven’t heard this all before, I have, which is not a bad thing. Lots of us out here LOVE D-n-B and I love the big Ragga sound especially. To be honest, the expiremental boundary pushing of the likes of Squarepusher and Aphex Twin tend to tire the ear after a while and we need a little straight ahead Goldie (or something, you fill in the name of your favorite urban D-n-B D.J.).

Well done. On the critical tip you might want to tweek your synths a little more, maybe get them to evolve more as the track progresses. You do have a good combination of synth patches and effects which keep the listener engaged, but, if you took those and then subtly effected them a little more over time; it would take this piece to another level. Also the initial lead synth at 12 seconds in is obviously not quantized and there are a few akward out of time pictures of- humanity? If that’s what you want, fine with me. It does stand out. It makes one pay attention, but kind of pulls away from the awesome quality of SMOOOOOTH.

Review #13 Of Guitar Scratch

Minimal Groove.
Subscribing to the less is more theory, this jam brings the beats without any sort of pretension. Once the scratching came in two things happened to me as a listener:

1. I was impressed with the ability of the turntablist and I instantly thought of DJ Shadow.

2. I wondered if it was real scratching or just some sort of emulation.

Short and sweet. The guitar track in this song could have been altered some to add intrigue, but that is mainly an opinion.

Good production and writing.

Review #8 Of Guitar Scratch

Pro Programming!
Cool programmed drums with a great groove…nice….sweet little itty bitty keys come in like spiders crawling and makeing there way to eat there food that is trapped in this complex percussive maze. Wonderful guitar like keyboard sound and the part is really catchy and hooky. The guy that did this track is a pro and it shows!

Review #4 Of Jungle Reason

Sequence of grooves
The intro catches my attention. And then you have a nice groove - but at 1:30 it started to bore me.

There is a variation at 1:59 -another nice groove - but then it gets boring again.

There is no real action going on. The song consists of a sequence of real good grooves but there is no tension, no dynamics.

Why don’t you use more voice samples put them at several locations of the song. Maybe try to build up some tension by less crowded passages. I think this can be a real good song if you push a little further.

Review #1 Of Feel The Bass

Good beat
I just think there should be more emphasis on the bassline. Maybe more attack on the attack envelope. The scrambled up synthline doesnt sound very synced and takes away from the overall groove of this tune.
