Well, i happen to like america but this video does say it all.
I have never really had a problem with my age untill yesterday when i checked my email, to find a email from Myspace asking me if i want the myspace people to come to my school…….WTF? I had filled out the profile boxes with my real age (28) but for some reason they still decided to send me the mail regardless. This is something that makes you wonder why im on a site like that. I suppose that the only saving grace is that the reason i have a Myspace profile is to promote my music otherwise i wouldnt be on there. Another sigh of relief is that there are older people on the site that love it and im pretty sure they got the email to.
Either way i think that my myspace days are coming to an end in the next few weeks maybe even facebook to, who knows.
I did have a little look on Facebook earlier to find that this site has turned to a bag of shite too. I just dont like it. Nothing more i can really say to that, maybe all the new things in my life make the old things look crap.
At what point do throw the towel in and call it a day, by this I’m talking about the music that I make. I have been making music now for over 11 years. I have won awards, I have had my music on TV, I have played gigs, I have even had an e-mail from somebody that played my music at a beach party. But at what point do you suddenly decide that you want to start selling music. In an ideal world I would like to be the same as everyone else sell all my music make my millions, live in a big house with a fast car and just live the life of luxury for a few years.
Is it wrong to care about what people think when it comes to buying music?
When I first started making music it was purely for fun until I got approached to do some music works in TV. Maybe it was this that gave me the bug to see more money in the music and make my millions from here. But who would actually buy the music? The way things are going at the moment with chart topping bands and the lack of sales it really seems pointless to even think that I’m going to make money when famous people are struggling.
After today I realised that I am wasting my time in the pursuit of happiness that comes with selling music. I set up a store on the site today in order to sell every track I’ve ever written on this site only, after a bit of market research I realise that in order to sell my music I would have to undercut the professionals meaning there is no way I could charge more than $.60 per song. After setting up the store I realised one major flaw in the plan and this is PayPal. For me PayPal is the only way I can accept money online. So I went ahead and set up my PayPal store, I even went to great lengths to test everything was working. But, this is one and a major problem and that is that whenever I sell a track for $.60 PayPal actually take $.38 as a processing fee.
After seeing this and playing about with my calculator I would much rather give away all of my music.
So from here on in and coming soon on this site all of the music I’ve ever made will be available for free download to whoever wants to download music, the only thing I am going to do is add a donation button on the download page so if you feel the need to donate some money as a way of saying thank you for my music means of doing this are there.
I hope and think I’ve made the right decision and I would like to go back to the same frame of mind I was in when I first started making music and that is … on making this music for fun why should I charge people to listen to it.
