Most bloggers remember the buzz around the web when Google slapped penalties in the form of Page Rank drops (and sometimes complete banning from Google) on many blogs and other sites for selling links. PayPerPost (now IZEA) was one of the specifically targeted sites that got hit and just about everyone who earned money through them also got nailed. It wasn’t long after that they announced plans for their own web site ranking system, Real Rank (now IZEARanks).

What is Real Rank?
So far, it looks like a cross between Alexa and Google’s Page Ranks, with a feel of Compete.com and some of their own flavor. From the FAQ, here’s how IZEA sees it:

RealRank is the first site ranking service that focuses exclusively on measuring the traffic and influence of individual blogs throughout the blogosphere. The service is designed to help advertisers analyze the relative reach of blogs and make informed online advertising purchasing decisions in the long run. RealRank aims to replace historically unreliable influence indicators such as Google PageRank, Alexa and Comscore by providing more accurate statistical data collected directly from the source.

Like any ranking system, you get an actual rank number for your blog. This is much like Alexa, in that the more traffic (etc.) you get, the lower your Real Rank. Also, like Alexa, you can view the weekly rank as well as numbers for the week, month, etc. up to a year. Also, like Alexa, you can see the Top 100. For me, this should serve as a great place to find blogs to link bait, and the Top 100 will be instrumental in that goal.

Ok so a new little teaser for the forum has been added and thats the arcade section So now if you get bored of writing posts and need a break you can head on over to the arcade section play a few games refresh yourself and get on track for a new forum post.

There are 119 games on the site at the moment and take it from me some of the games are really addictive, for example .. Mahjong This is an old Chinese game where you have to remove all the tiles from the board to win the game, sounds boring i know. But i started playing it for a while and before i knew it i had been playing for hours, yes ladies and gentlemen this game will destroy your life as you attempt to beat the system and remove all the cards from the pile.

Well its day 2 now on the new forum and things are starting to shape up pretty well. We did originally start of with phpbb3 but we encountered so many issues with it, then we go onto another site to read about upgrades ect to the site to find out that phpbb3 is so buggy and basically shite. This concerned us a little so we decided to rewrite the forum last night to accommodate the awesome simple machines forum software. After a couple of hours the site was back online and starting to take shape. We added a new template an arcade and a visitor map to the site and its looks better than ever.

New in the world of slotvent.com is the forum this can be found at http://forum.slotvent.com I have a plan, that plan is the biggest forum in the internet (hopefully) and if not a reasonable sized one If you lie joining in on forum discussions and debate and would like to come and add something to ours then please follow the link above and start typing. Eventually the forum will cover most topics and have a reasonable user base but for now we have only the basic category’s and limited users but again we want you to change that.

If you would like to work on the site as a moderator or mascot then please let me know and im sure we can sort something out.

I’m not impressed with this whole wordpress thing I got going on right now, the amount of free themes out there is amazing for us wordpress users but, there all shit. I know, I could create my own maybe but I don’t really have the time to do this or the energy. Maybe there should be some rules that you have to follow to make the number of shocking themes decline a little.

I have spend pretty much most of the day going through various wordpress sites looking for that special theme just to come back here a day later and keep the theme that I already had.

Does anyone have any suggestions of a good site for free themes?

1, because I’m giving up soon

2, because I’m not paying for them (Wordpress is free so why should I pay to make it look good)

So that’s a quick rant on what’s going on at the moment in the world of slotvent. Theme hunting instead of making music or getting a life

That’s it I’m going to stick with the theme I got, I even stopped half way through writing this to have a look at some other sites and now I’m really annoyed. If you don’t like how my site looks, I honestly don’t care. I hate it but that’s it and we have to deal with it for now.

So, as a final note if you do know of any good theme sites please, please, please let me know.

I dont know why but i have decided to remove the podpress plugin and the downloads from my install of wordpress there are a couple of reasons that have made me do this so heres the excuses

Podpress and the downloads plugins are no compatible with my copy of wordpress 2.5 and are not functioning properly.

The feeds do not refresh so i still have stats from old songs that are no longer on the site.

The downloads page just looks wank to be honest

Im gonna work on something new for the site but in the mean time you can listen to all my music from the sidebar of this site or you can goto reverbnation and listen to my music there.

Hope this aint annoyed anyone but it just kinda makes sense to do this properly.

Grooverider, a Radio 1 DJ, is facing the possibility of a four-year prison term in Dubai after police arrested him for allegedly carrying cannabis and pornographic DVDs into the country.

Grooverider – whose real name is Raymond Bingham – was arrested at Dubai airport on November 23, hours before he was due to play a sold-out show at The Lodge, one of the Gulf state’s hottest clubs. A small amount of cannabis was reported to have been found in his record collection.

The 40-year-old DJ, who co-hosts the weekly BBC drum-and-bass programme Fabio and Grooverider, faces four years in jail or deportation if he is found guilty.

His case is causing huge controversy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where strict laws rooted in conservative Islam sometimes clash with the liberal values of its expatriate citizens and the millions of tourists who visit every year.

Drugs and pornographic material are strictly banned in the UAE.

There have been several cases of foreigners serving years in jail after being found guilty of trying to smuggle even small amounts of drugs into the country.

Although Grooverider is known primarily as a DJ and presenter, he is also a recording artist under his artist name and the “Codename John” moniker. He also runs one of the most prestigious drum-and-bass imprints: Prototype Recordings. Local legal experts said that the high profile of Grooverider made the issue an important test case for local authorities.

Ram Nath, the music promoter who organized the show, said that he warned Mr Bingham of the strict laws of the country before his departure from London.

“I sent a fax to him explaining all of our laws, including what he could and could not bring into the country. Unfortunately, he was booked by police before he got out of the airport,” Mr Nath said.

More than a thousand fans were left disappointed after paying £25 for a ticket to the show, according to Mr Nath.

He plans to sue Mr Bingham’s London management company for losses. The BBC has declined to comment on the case.

“This is the first time anything like this has happened to a celebrity in Dubai, so everybody’s talking about it,” Mr Nath said.

The local press has quoted police sources as saying that traces of drugs were found in Mr Bingham’s urine in laboratory tests by police examiners.

Consular officials from the British Embassy in Dubai have been in contact with Mr Bingham, an embassy official confirmed.

His case has been referred to the Dubai criminal court, with his first hearing to be scheduled in the coming days.

As many of you are probably aware i was in a car crash the other night, Thanks to all of you that have sent me get well wishes, they seem to be working a little.

Heres how it happened.

I was just taking my good friend becca home when we arrived at a t junction and a red light, we sat at the red light for a while and waited for it to go green. So the light turned green on the t junction and i was all set to turn righ, i pulled out and next thing i know im in pain and looking at becca asking if she is ok. It turns out the guy driveing the other car thught a red light meant go.

Whilst we were in the car still a guy came over and handed me a card and explained he was a witness to the situation and that i was in the right, this could have gone a bit smoother if he had helped us get out of the car.

So, we are out of the car and sitting at the side of the road when the driver of the other car come over and asked if i needed and ambulance to which i replied yes, within minuites the ambulance, 3 police cars and a tow truck all turned up at the same time. while this was going on i took the time to check the side of my car and it was some dent in the drivers door.

After swapping insurance details and giving the police a quick run down of what happened i was moved into the ambulance where they checked me over whilst at the same time i was being breath tested by the police, to which i passed.

The car got taken away, i got cleaned up and interviewed. 2hrs later im back home wondering whats just happened.

Now its time for the fun bit of going through the insurance company to get my car fixed or a new one, more likey the new one. i will keep you updated on the process of events and how things are going, its been 2 days now since the crash and im bruised and achy but no real serious damage to myself or becca and to be honest thats what i wanted out of this whole thing, for us to walk away after.

Thanks to the police and ambulance that helped us and made sure it ran smooth.
