The End Of Ebay For Everyday People

1 March 2009 614 views 4 Comments

Its been a while since i have sold anything on ebay, but i decided that i have a few too many dvds and i would like to sell them to make some room in the house. I grabbed a pile and signed into my ebay account and started the process to sell. Everything was going fine until we come to the postage section where it tells me that i cant add any postage and packaging costs to my item. Aparently this is done to stop people charging over the odds for shipping to make a few extra pounds, but where does that leave the average joe ?

When i decided to sell my items on ebay i knew that i wasn’t going to get a lot for the items that i sell but i was hoping to get more that the quote from blockbuster. This is how i see it:

I have a dvd that blockbuster have offered me 50p for, so i want to sell it on ebay and i know that it wont go for more than £2.00. I add the item on with this new free postage rule and the item sells for £2.00 after that its 10p plus a further cost for selling it. Then there are the paypal fees and the fact that i have to post it out of that amount too. Think ill make more than 50p?

Ebay seems like its slowly moving towards the Amazon way of thinking and just having shops with business people that can afford to sell with no postage and quite frankly its a bit of a joke. I suppose the bottom line of this is i will no longer be selling my 3000+ dvd collection on ebay and i will just have to keep than unless i can find a better place to sell.

"… it tells me that i cant add any postage and packaging costs to my item…" Uh, fail. Seriously, have you ever even *looked* at an eBay listing? Everything has a shipping charge added BY THE LISTER.

I just sold a GPU on Ebay. The buyer paid shipping, I paid around 3% to Ebay, and 4% to PayPal (iirc). Sure I would sell on Craig’s List first if I could, but 7% wouldn’t stop me from selling on Ebay.
