Well after a week of having the forum we finally have a topic that has captured the debate hearts. And the topic is “yawning” and why do we do it.

I found this online that might answer a few questions:

THE ANSWER
It is a protective mechanism to make a group more alert
Or, it’s a form of herding behavior
Or it’s a means of communicating sleeping times
The brain cooling theory says that when we contagiously yawn we are participating in an ancient, hardwired ritual that evolved to help groups stay alert and detect danger.

Yawning is an involuntary action that everyone does. We start before we are born and most creatures on the planet do it - even snakes and fish.

New research suggests rather than being a precursor to sleep, the purpose of yawning is to cool the brain so it operates more efficiently and keeps you awake.

The theory could explain a puzzling question about subconscious human behaviour - why many of us yawn when we see or hear another person doing it, or even read about it or even just think about it?

‘Herding behavior’

It’s not copying another person’s sleepiness, say scientists at the University of Albany in New York, who are behind the latest research.

“We think contagious yawning is triggered by empathic mechanisms which function to maintain group vigilance,” says Dr Gordon Gallup, a leading researcher at the university.

The belief is further supported by the observation of University of Maryland’s Robert Provine that paratroopers report yawning before jumping.

But there are other theories. It’s been suggested contagious yawning could be a result of an unconscious herding behavior - a subtle way to communicate to those around us, similar to when flocks of birds take flight at the same time.

Another theory suggests contagious yawning might have helped early humans communicate their alertness levels and co-ordinate sleeping times.

Basically, if one decided it was time to sleep they would tell the others by yawning and they would do it in return to show they agreed.

Chimpanzees also suffer from contagious yawning, according to researchers at Kyoto University in Japan. They are thought to be the only other creatures, apart from humans, who do so.

The rest of the animal kingdom - including birds, snakes and hippos - yawn for other reasons. Dogs yawn to stay calm in certain situations, says Turid Rugaas, author of On talking Terms with Dogs.

Anyone who gets to the end of this article without yawning may wish to think of themselves as a medical apparition. In fact, only about half of adult humans are prone to contagious yawning.

Burger king makes me laugh, As it happens i had one today after a long ol day at work. The guys at the Heston Services Burger King are by far the slowest people to ever cook a burger.
I walked in and asked for my food the lady behind the counter just spend the next 10 mins just staring at the drink cups wondering what one is the large cup

Shocking service and it always happens when you want fast food.

I think that this weekend just gone was officially the start of the summer. I know this because i had the camera out taking photos of the great outdoors Had a barbecue and spend most of my time outside.

Most bloggers remember the buzz around the web when Google slapped penalties in the form of Page Rank drops (and sometimes complete banning from Google) on many blogs and other sites for selling links. PayPerPost (now IZEA) was one of the specifically targeted sites that got hit and just about everyone who earned money through them also got nailed. It wasn’t long after that they announced plans for their own web site ranking system, Real Rank (now IZEARanks).

What is Real Rank?
So far, it looks like a cross between Alexa and Google’s Page Ranks, with a feel of Compete.com and some of their own flavor. From the FAQ, here’s how IZEA sees it:

RealRank is the first site ranking service that focuses exclusively on measuring the traffic and influence of individual blogs throughout the blogosphere. The service is designed to help advertisers analyze the relative reach of blogs and make informed online advertising purchasing decisions in the long run. RealRank aims to replace historically unreliable influence indicators such as Google PageRank, Alexa and Comscore by providing more accurate statistical data collected directly from the source.

Like any ranking system, you get an actual rank number for your blog. This is much like Alexa, in that the more traffic (etc.) you get, the lower your Real Rank. Also, like Alexa, you can view the weekly rank as well as numbers for the week, month, etc. up to a year. Also, like Alexa, you can see the Top 100. For me, this should serve as a great place to find blogs to link bait, and the Top 100 will be instrumental in that goal.

Britans got talent … i don’t think so.

I cant get enough of that show, there is always someone that can make me laugh on there when they think that they are gods gift to the talent business then get told they suck ass by simon cowell Its woth the tv licence alone just to watch them cry.

Don’t get me wrong there are some good acts on there but yea most are shocking and its well worth the look in.

Ok so a new little teaser for the forum has been added and thats the arcade section So now if you get bored of writing posts and need a break you can head on over to the arcade section play a few games refresh yourself and get on track for a new forum post.

There are 119 games on the site at the moment and take it from me some of the games are really addictive, for example .. Mahjong This is an old Chinese game where you have to remove all the tiles from the board to win the game, sounds boring i know. But i started playing it for a while and before i knew it i had been playing for hours, yes ladies and gentlemen this game will destroy your life as you attempt to beat the system and remove all the cards from the pile.

Well its day 2 now on the new forum and things are starting to shape up pretty well. We did originally start of with phpbb3 but we encountered so many issues with it, then we go onto another site to read about upgrades ect to the site to find out that phpbb3 is so buggy and basically shite. This concerned us a little so we decided to rewrite the forum last night to accommodate the awesome simple machines forum software. After a couple of hours the site was back online and starting to take shape. We added a new template an arcade and a visitor map to the site and its looks better than ever.
