Reason 4 Update
Reason 4.0.1 is a maintenance update that resolves a few minor issues and, as a response to user feedback received for Reason version 4, brings some small workflow changing alterations.
General
- More tolerant error handling when loading custom fonts.
- Selected installer language was not used when upgrading from 3.0, this is now fixed.
- We have improved the error handling when copying Remote maps and codecs during start up.
- All sample players (NN-XT, NN-19, Dr Rex and Redrum) - High Quality Interpolation is now enabled by default.
- Improved handling of mono/stereo connections while auto-routing.
- Dragging devices to the rack from the tool window only worked with the top-most window, now it works with any window.
- More robust error handling during startup, avoiding certain timing problems in Windows.
Sequencer
- Automation type for Dr Rex transpose parameter was continuous - changed this to stepped.
- In certain situations Command-A did not work properly on Mac OS X.
- Notes with same Start or End position could change the play/stop order randomly. This could only be noticed while playing chords on a monophonic device. This is now fixed.
- Fixed note trig queuing for extremely short notes. This was causing phased effects when doubling clips exactly on two layers.
- “Reset automation override” could default to wrong value.
- Pressing Stop the second time moves the song position locator to previous start position, it could sometime move to song start if the locator had been repositioned during playback.
- MIDI import of file with redundant note information is now filtered.
- Uncombining a Combinator deleted the Combinator’s sequencer track. This is now fixed.
- Reason could take a long time to respond when entering extreme numbers in position editors.
- Overriding parameter automation by loading a patch did not always indicate automation override. Now fixed.
Improved workflow in sequencer
- If a clip is selected in Arrange mode and you switch to Edit mode, the clip is automatically opened for editing. This only happens if the clip is on the current track.
- You can press [Esc] to close an open clip in Edit mode. If the clip was opened from Arrange mode, this will automatically switch the sequencer back to Arrange mode.
- Only one single clip is created in loop record mode. Before, a new clip was created for every new loop.
- Changed Zoom behavior: The program now zooms on the song position locator if it’s in view. If not, it zooms towards the left edge of the current view.
- Drag and drop now also works in left-handed mouse configurations.
- Text-entry of a tempo with a decimal in the transport panel or when editing the static value was counter-intuitive: Typing something like ‘120.5′ or ‘120.05′ delivered 120.005. This is now fixed.
- Added label to velocity and pattern lanes.
Remote
Added Remote support for:
- Akai MPD24
- Akai MPD32
- Akai MPK49
- Edirol PCR-300/500/800
- Frontier Design Group Alpha Track
- Line 6 KB37
- M-audio ProjectMix I/O
- M-audio Axiom 25/49/61
- M-audio Oxygen 8 v2
- Fixed a performance problem with the Remote Override “learn” feature.
Browser
- Performance problem when having many ReFills installed.
- Reason could crash when saving if there was more than 300 ReFills installed -fixed.
- Better error handling while file searching in browser.
- Broken search for missing sounds in songs created with OS hide extensions enabled - fixed.
- Changed wording of memory usage in patch browser to avoid confusion.
- Saving patches in Reason version 4 and ReFill packer had a backward compatibility issue - fixed.
- Sometime the static value was not imported correctly when loading old songs - fixed.
- If an opened patch or sample had been moved or deleted while Reason was running this could prevent the user from saving the song - fixed.
- Reason could in certain cases unexpectedly quit when saving on Mac OS X - fixed.
Combinator
- If many devices in a Combinator were programmed to switch “Receive notes” on/off in the Combinator’s programmer, some devices responded slower than other devices. This is now fixed.
Malström
- Increased the buffer size of Malström’s Comb filter, this fixed problems with high sample rates.
RPG-8
- Fixed velocity CV and knob/automation lag when in random mode.
- Fixed broken velocity change of tied single note when in ON-mode.
- “Render Arpeggio To Track” was broken when pattern automation lane was enabled.
- New shortcuts: Shift pattern right: Ctrl + J (Win) or Cmd + J (Mac) Shift pattern left: Ctrl + K (Win) or Cmd + K (Mac) Random sequencer pattern: Ctrl +R (Win) or Cmd + R (Mac) Alter Pattern: Ctrl + T (Win) or Cmd + T (Mac)

Shift sequencer pattern right: Ctrl + J (Win) or Cmd + J (Mac)
Shift sequencer pattern left: Ctrl + K (Win) or Cmd + K (Mac)
Randomize pattern: Ctrl +R (Win) or Cmd + R (Mac)
Audio Card
- Reason could go silent if the sample rate was changed in Windows Vista or on an aggregated audio card driver in Mac OS X. This is now fixed.

Grooverider In prison
Grooverider, a Radio 1 DJ, is facing the possibility of a four-year prison term in Dubai after police arrested him for allegedly carrying cannabis and pornographic DVDs into the country.
Grooverider – whose real name is Raymond Bingham – was arrested at Dubai airport on November 23, hours before he was due to play a sold-out show at The Lodge, one of the Gulf state’s hottest clubs. A small amount of cannabis was reported to have been found in his record collection.
The 40-year-old DJ, who co-hosts the weekly BBC drum-and-bass programme Fabio and Grooverider, faces four years in jail or deportation if he is found guilty.
His case is causing huge controversy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where strict laws rooted in conservative Islam sometimes clash with the liberal values of its expatriate citizens and the millions of tourists who visit every year.
Drugs and pornographic material are strictly banned in the UAE.
There have been several cases of foreigners serving years in jail after being found guilty of trying to smuggle even small amounts of drugs into the country.
Although Grooverider is known primarily as a DJ and presenter, he is also a recording artist under his artist name and the “Codename John” moniker. He also runs one of the most prestigious drum-and-bass imprints: Prototype Recordings. Local legal experts said that the high profile of Grooverider made the issue an important test case for local authorities.
Ram Nath, the music promoter who organized the show, said that he warned Mr Bingham of the strict laws of the country before his departure from London.
“I sent a fax to him explaining all of our laws, including what he could and could not bring into the country. Unfortunately, he was booked by police before he got out of the airport,” Mr Nath said.
More than a thousand fans were left disappointed after paying £25 for a ticket to the show, according to Mr Nath.
He plans to sue Mr Bingham’s London management company for losses. The BBC has declined to comment on the case.
“This is the first time anything like this has happened to a celebrity in Dubai, so everybody’s talking about it,” Mr Nath said.
The local press has quoted police sources as saying that traces of drugs were found in Mr Bingham’s urine in laboratory tests by police examiners.
Consular officials from the British Embassy in Dubai have been in contact with Mr Bingham, an embassy official confirmed.
His case has been referred to the Dubai criminal court, with his first hearing to be scheduled in the coming days.
The Car Crash
As many of you are probably aware i was in a car crash the other night, Thanks to all of you that have sent me get well wishes, they seem to be working a little.
Heres how it happened.
I was just taking my good friend becca home when we arrived at a t junction and a red light, we sat at the red light for a while and waited for it to go green. So the light turned green on the t junction and i was all set to turn righ, i pulled out and next thing i know im in pain and looking at becca asking if she is ok. It turns out the guy driveing the other car thught a red light meant go.
Whilst we were in the car still a guy came over and handed me a card and explained he was a witness to the situation and that i was in the right, this could have gone a bit smoother if he had helped us get out of the car.
So, we are out of the car and sitting at the side of the road when the driver of the other car come over and asked if i needed and ambulance to which i replied yes, within minuites the ambulance, 3 police cars and a tow truck all turned up at the same time. while this was going on i took the time to check the side of my car and it was some dent in the drivers door.
After swapping insurance details and giving the police a quick run down of what happened i was moved into the ambulance where they checked me over whilst at the same time i was being breath tested by the police, to which i passed.
The car got taken away, i got cleaned up and interviewed. 2hrs later im back home wondering whats just happened.
Now its time for the fun bit of going through the insurance company to get my car fixed or a new one, more likey the new one. i will keep you updated on the process of events and how things are going, its been 2 days now since the crash and im bruised and achy but no real serious damage to myself or becca and to be honest thats what i wanted out of this whole thing, for us to walk away after.
Thanks to the police and ambulance that helped us and made sure it ran smooth.
Radio Glitch
What a night last night on the radio. I will openly admit that last night on the radio was by far one of the better nights i have done on there since i started to do live radio djing. People were in the chat room telling me that they liked the songs that i was playing and that they were dancing to the music they could hear, For me its not about the music i want to play its the music that people want to listen to so, to find out that i had selected the right tunes was amazing.
The started of well and within 30 mins i had more listeners that any other night on the radio and the numbers just kept on going up i couldnt believe it.
To all of you that listened to the set last night i hope you enjoyed what you heard and that you come again next thursday at 8pm till 10 pm for another listen on www.radioglitch.co.uk
Plug n Play 26th feb 2008
I know, i know i should have written about this soon but to be honest i aint really had the time to actually sit down and tell you all about the night. IT WAS AMAZING, sure we had a few technical problems but who dont when it comes to setting up and hosting your own event for the first time.
The night started at around 8pm there was a small handful of us there and we wanted to get there early to get a feel for the venue and run a few sound checks on the system. All was going well until we reached 10 mins before the door opens and then the misery happens. The “sound engineer” didn’t know how to wire the speaker system up and we were getting a funny buzz from the speakers that took about an hour to finally sort out. So that was problem one.
Other issues included no cue on the decks for a bit, people getting in taxi’s that couldn’t find the venue.
All in tho both rooms were full of people dancing and everyone i spoke to about the event said that they would come again, so im happy with that considering that it was our first ever event.
There are vids and pics of the event at www.fundamentaldnb.com so pop over to there and have a look see.
To all the djs that turned up thanks for coming you helped in making a good night, to all the people that showed up you guys rule and, to all the dj’s and people that didn’t show up, you wont be getting an invite to our next event ![]()
